With Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden naming U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-California, as his running mate for this November’s critical election, he solidified the Democrat ticket as staunchly anti-gun. In fact, it’s likely Harris despises guns and gun owners even more than Biden does.
But many people aren’t aware that one of the women who made Biden’s short list for vice president, U. S. Rep. Karen Bass, had very close ties to Fidel Castro’s Cuba. While California has a long history of sending terrible politicians to Congress, Bass is more than just another in the long line of liberal hacks. In fact, her close ties with Communist groups, including Cuba, cast doubt on her ability to lead, making it incredible that Biden continued to consider her until the very end of the process.
Bass’s participation in Venceremos Brigade, a communist front group founded by Cuban dictator Fidel Castro and controlled by the Cuban intelligence service, is disturbing to many observers. Equally disturbing are her eight trips to communist Cuba in the 1970s.
Bass was once identified as being the leader of the Los Angeles contingent of the Venceremos Brigade, a Communist front group founded by Castro. According to a report at Breitbart.com, a law enforcement officer who tried to infiltrate that group said members had to be “a confirmed Marxist-Leninist.”
Concerning firearms and the Second Amendment, Bass was just as bad or worse than all of the other V.P. contenders. Among other things, she favors a federal ban on so-called “assault weapons,” “universal” background checks, which don’t apply to criminals, and banning “high-capacity” magazines, which are actually normal magazines sold with many popular firearms.
While one might think Bass’s Communist credentials would have doomed her chance of being chosen, Politico reported that more than 300 DNC delegates and members actually urged Biden to pick Bass as his running mate, calling her the “unity” candidate.
While we have nothing to celebrate regarding Biden choosing Harris, an ardent anti-gunner in her own right, I suppose we can at least be happy that Biden didn’t choose an outright Communist sympathizer as his running mate.
